CEMEX partners with McDonald’s in building a better future for children

Manila, Philippines 09 Dec 2019

Inspired by the dream to make educational opportunities more accessible to children, Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Philippines, Inc. (RMHC), supported by CEMEX Holdings Philippines (CHP), recently inaugurated a new Ronald McDonald Bahay Bulilit Learning Center in Barangay Malagasang I-G at Imus, Cavite.

With the mission to make a difference in the lives of children through programs that support their need for shelter, education, and happiness, a turnover ceremony was recently held to officially open the Bahay Bulilit Learning Center. The event was led by McDonalds Managing Director Margot Torres, Imus City Mayor Emmanuel Maliksi and Cavite 3rd District Representative Alex Advincula.

To date, there are 32 Bahay Bulilit Learning Centers in the Philippines and 65,564 children have been served by the program. CEMEX Holdings Philippines is supporting the initiative as it is aligned with the company’s “Build the Nation” umbrella social advocacy program that is dedicated to build stronger, empowered communities and uplift the lives of more Filipinos.

At the Bahay Bulilit Learning Center, children will be taught basic skills, lessons, and group activities facilitated by accredited social workers and community volunteers. The program is implemented in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and local government units.

“CEMEX is supporting McDonald’s Bahay Bulilit because it’s aligned with our commitment to build a brighter future for the youth who are the next leaders and change-makers of the country,” said Chito Maniago, Regional Director for Corporate Communications and Public Affairs at CEMEX Philippines and Executive Director of CEMEX Philippines Foundation. “The new learning center will be a safe venue for children to learn social skills, values, and to have fun. It is our hope for children to begin dreaming big and pursue this dream when they enter formal schooling,” he added.

Other education initiatives of CEMEX include the “Adopt-a-School” program and Brigada Eskwela which are intended to support the Department of Education (DepEd) in its goal to continuously create conducive and safe places for learning and interaction with other kids.

CEMEX has a rich history of improving the welfare of those it serves through innovative building solutions, efficiency advancements, and efforts to promote a sustainable future in more than 50 countries worldwide. In the Philippines, CEMEX subsidiaries Apo Cement Corporation in Cebu and Solid Cement Corporation in Rizal produce and market a broad product mix of building solutions. These cement manufacturing plants carry the well-established cement brands Apo and Rizal. More information is available at www.cemexholdingsphilippines.com
