CEMEX cites climate change actions at Clean Air Summit
CEMEX showed how the cement company heeds the global call for action on climate change during the Summit on Clean Air and Climate Change of the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) and the PMAP Human Resources Management Foundation at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel in Pasay City.
"We are working together to build a cleaner, more livable country," CEMEX Energy Director Eduardo Pons told participants to the summit. “We dedicate significant efforts to address biodiversity conservation, energy efficiency, and climate change."
CEMEX’s investment in state-of-the-art and efficient cement technologies are all aimed at creating a positive impact to the environment. The new mill in Apo Cement Plant is able to reduce energy consumption by more than 15% which is equivalent to the electricity consumed by more than 10,000 Filipino homes.
According to Pons, CEMEX has also increased the use of low-carbon alternative fuels by up to 20% in its Solid Cement Plant to reduce the use of fossil fuels in cement production. As a result, 0.5 million tCO2 is avoided, which is equivalent to the annual emissions of 100,000 vehicles per year.
CEMEX Philippines offers a broad product mix of building solutions to the Philippine market. Its subsidiaries, Apo Cement Corporation and Solid Cement Corporation, produce and market cement and other building materials in the country. These cement manufacturing subsidiaries carry the well established cement brands APO and Rizal.
