Solid Cement Corporation receives accolades from DENR-EMB for environmental programs
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) recently awarded CEMEX Philippines’ subsidiary Solid Cement Corporation for its commitment as donor partner to the government agency’s Adopt-a-River Program. DENR-EMB conferred the citation during the Environmental Summit held at Taal Vista Hotel in Tagaytay City.
Solid Cement Corporation gives importance to making a positive impact to the environment through proper waste management, sustainable operations, and supporting river and coastal clean-up initiatives.
The company provided support to DENR-EMB by implementing cleanup activities and rehabilitation efforts at the Tagbac River in Antipolo City, Rizal. Solid Cement helped improve the quality of the waterway, planted appropriate species to restore its ecology, installed trash traps, and conducted information campaigns in surrounding communities so the public can also take ownership in the protection and stewardship of the waterway.
During the same event, Solid Cement also received a plaque of recognition for its exemplary practice in helping implement the Republic Act (RA) 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 using Best Environmental Technology (BET) and Best Available Practice (BAP).
RA 9003 espouses the adoption of a systematic, comprehensive, and ecological solid waste management program that ensures the protection of public health and the environment as well as the proper segregation, collection, transport, storage, treatment, and disposal of solid waste through best environmental practices.
